How is NovoLog® Mix 70/30 different from other types of insulin?

NovoLog® Mix 70/30 is different because it is a single insulin that works two ways. When taken as directed by your doctor, it works fast to cover blood sugar surges at meals, and also has an extended release that can last up to 24 hours.

Does NovoLog® Mix 70/30 interact with other treatments?

Make sure to tell your doctor about all the medicines you take, including prescription and nonprescription medicines. Certain medicines may increase or decrease blood sugar or your sensitivity to insulin. Ask your doctor before starting any medicines if you’re not sure how they’ll affect your insulin dose.

Your doctor will tell you how to take NovoLog® Mix 70/30, based on your individual needs. If you think you need to adjust your insulin dose because of illness, starting another medication, stress, change in diet, or change in activity level, make sure to talk to your doctor. What do I do if I’m still experiencing high or low blood sugar levels?

If you’re taking NovoLog® Mix 70/30 and are still experiencing low or high blood sugar levels, talk to your doctor. He or she may need to adjust your dose. Check your blood sugar readings regularly. Then you and your doctor can determine how best to tailor your insulin therapy to your needs.

What type of needles should I use with NovoLog® Mix 70/30 FlexPen®?

NovoFine® 30 disposable needles are recommended. Modern needles, such as NovoFine® 30 disposable needles, are very fine and short, and are designed to help make injecting more comfortable.

Does NovoLog® Mix 70/30 FlexPen® need to be refrigerated?

Store your NovoLog® Mix 70/30 FlexPen in the refrigerator before use. Make sure it doesn’t freeze. Once in use, keep NovoLog® Mix 70/30 FlexPen® at room temperature (less than 86°F) for 14 days. Always check the expiration date when you receive NovoLog® Mix 70/30.*

How can taking one insulin with two actions give me the coverage I need?

When you eat, your blood sugar level rises. While between meals and at bedtime, your blood sugar levels stay at a fairly constant rate. With the two actions of NovoLog® Mix 70/30, you get blood sugar coverage when you need it. A fast action for meals, and an extended action that can last for up to 24 hours, all in one insulin.

Dosing of NovoLog® Mix 70/30 will differ among patients and should be set by the health care professional familiar with the patient’s energy needs, eating habits, and other lifestyle factors.  As with all insulins, the length of action may vary according to the dose, injection site, blood flow, temperature, and level of physical activity and conditioning.
