How is NovoLog® Mix 70/30 different from other types of insulin?

NovoLog® Mix 70/30 is different because it is a single insulin that works two ways. When taken as directed by your doctor, it works fast to cover blood sugar surges at meals, and also has an extended release that can last up to 24 hours.

Does NovoLog® Mix 70/30 interact with other treatments?

Make sure to tell your doctor about all the medicines you take, including prescription and nonprescription medicines. Certain medicines may increase or decrease blood sugar or your sensitivity to insulin. Ask your doctor before starting any medicines if you’re not sure how they’ll affect your insulin dose.

How do I take NovoLog® Mix 70/30?

Your doctor will tell you how to take NovoLog® Mix 70/30, based on your individual needs. If you think you need to adjust your insulin dose because of illness, starting another medication, stress, change in diet, or change in activity level, make sure to talk to your doctor. What do I do if I’m still experiencing high or low blood sugar levels?

If you’re taking NovoLog® Mix 70/30 and are still experiencing low or high blood sugar levels, talk to your doctor. He or she may need to adjust your dose. Check your blood sugar readings regularly. Then you and your doctor can determine how best to tailor your insulin therapy to your needs.

What type of needles should I use with NovoLog® Mix 70/30 FlexPen®?

NovoFine® 30 disposable needles are recommended. Modern needles, such as NovoFine® 30 disposable needles, are very fine and short, and are designed to help make injecting more comfortable.

Does NovoLog® Mix 70/30 FlexPen® need to be refrigerated?

Store your NovoLog® Mix 70/30 FlexPen in the refrigerator before use. Make sure it doesn’t freeze. Once in use, keep NovoLog® Mix 70/30 FlexPen® at room temperature (less than 86°F) for 14 days. Always check the expiration date when you receive NovoLog® Mix 70/30.*

How can taking one insulin with two actions give me the coverage I need?

When you eat, your blood sugar level rises. While between meals and at bedtime, your blood sugar levels stay at a fairly constant rate. With the two actions of NovoLog® Mix 70/30, you get blood sugar coverage when you need it. A fast action for meals, and an extended action that can last for up to 24 hours, all in one insulin.

Can NovoLog® Mix 70/30 offer me flexibility with treatment?

Because NovoLog® Mix 70/30 works fast, you can take it within 15 minutes of eating a meal.^‡ And it comes in FlexPen®, the insulin pen preferred by people with diabetes.^7,8 FlexPen® fits in your purse or pocket. So you can take it where you want, when you want, for flexibility with treatment.

I’m currently taking a human premix insulin, but I’m not reaching my diabetes management goals. How can NovoLog® Mix 70/30 help?

Because of its delayed onset of action, human premix insulin may not effectively control after-meal (postprandial) sugar.⁵ However,
NovoLog® Mix 70/30 can help meet your needs at mealtime and for up to 24 hours. Plus, NovoLog® Mix 70/30 can be taken within 15 minutes of mealtime, unlike human premix insulin, which require dosing at least 30 minutes before meals.^† If you’re not reaching your blood sugar goals with human premix insulin, talk to your doctor about NovoLog® Mix 70/30.

Dosing of NovoLog® Mix 70/30 will differ among patients and should be set by the health care professional familiar with the patient’s energy needs, eating habits, and other lifestyle factors. As with all insulins, the length of action may vary according to the dose, injection site, blood flow, temperature, and level of physical activity and conditioning.

Indications and Usage: NovoLog^® Mix 70/30 (70% insulin aspart protamine suspension and 30% insulin aspart injection, [rDNA origin]) is a man-made insulin that is used to control high blood sugar in adults with diabetes mellitus.

Important Safety Information: NovoLog^® Mix 70/30 is a pre-mixed insulin. You should eat a meal within 15 minutes after using NovoLog^® Mix 70/30 to avoid low blood sugar. Do not inject NovoLog^® Mix 70/30 if you are not planning to eat within 15 minutes. Check your blood glucose regularly. Ask your health care provider what your blood sugars should be and when you should check your blood sugar levels. Alcohol, including beer and wine, may affect your blood sugar when you take NovoLog^® Mix 70/30

Do not change the type of insulin you use unless told to do so by your health care provider. The amount of insulin you take as well as the best time for you to take your insulin may need to change if you take a different type of insulin.

Never mix NovoLog^® Mix 70/30 with other insulin products or use it in an insulin pump.

Do not use NovoLog^® Mix 70/30 if your blood glucose is too low (hypoglycemia) or if you are allergic to anything in NovoLog^® Mix 70/30. If you take too much NovoLog^® Mix 70/30 your blood sugar may fall too low.

Tell your health care provider about all medicines you take and all of your medical conditions, including if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Your NovoLog^® Mix 70/30 dose may change if you take other medicines.

The most common side effect of insulin therapy, including NovoLog^® Mix 70/30, is low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Other possible side effects include reactions at the injection site (like redness, swelling and itching), and allergic reactions. Get medical help right away if you experience signs of serious allergic reaction such as body rash, trouble with your breathing, fast heartbeat, or sweating. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for further information.
